HISTORY OF THE MOUND CITY MEDICAL FORUM
The Mound City Medical Forum was charactered in 1920 as the first local component society of the National Medical Association established west of the Mississippi. Its parent national organization, the National Medical Association (NMA), was charactered in 1895, born out of the exigences of the time, to be the national voice, forum for thought, and strategy on contemporary medical and medico-social issues as well as for the education of African-American physicians in advocacy for quality delivery of health for minority and under served patients of the United States.
Currently, the Mound City Medical Forum (MCMF) is the voice of more than 200 African-American, African, and Caribbean physicians in the St. Louis Metropolitan area. It is a forum for sharing of scientific thought between physician colleagues and a platform from which to speak on social and political issues relative to the health of the African-American public, including an ever present battle against healthcare disparities
In recent years under dynamic leadership of recent presidents and our current President, there has been an acceleration in the addition and expansion of MCMF programs such as:
The Mound City Medical Forum Foundation was formed as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation for the purpose of raising funds to provide scholarships for medical students attending the two medical schools in St. Louis. Donations to this Foundation are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

- Development of an active Legislative Committee
- Partnership and alliances with other local professional organizations and medical societies
- Health education articles in local newspapers and public service announcements
- Meetings with elected officials to address health issues
- Letters and calls to legislators on health issues
- Providing scholarship annually to local medical students
- CME symposium
- Sent medical equipment and supplies to our 'Adopted' Medical Clinic in Ghana
- The Ferguson Initiative. A STEM Program began in the Vogt Elementary School located in the city of Ferguson. This program will be ongoing with expansion to other schools.
